Slacking

Ok I have completely put off updating my blog for waaay too long and to give a complete recap of events would be impossible, so here’s the skinny…

My good friend Mike had to leave to get surgery to fix up his knee, which was a real shame, and seeing him leave made me think of how little time I have left down here. It was a real kick in the rear to get going on all the things i wanted to be sure i could include in my memories of being down here.

Chris came to visit from Wednesday the 15th through Saturday the 18th and it was so perfect. Granted, anything dealing with him and the airport never did work out just right, he arrived a day late (but i was just so happy he arrived at all despite the delays) and had to take a later flight back home than expected, but i suppose that’s how the universe balances itself out for letting us have such an incredible time together. We hardly waited in any lines and got to see absolutely everything tht we wanted too, plus more. OH! And while at the Magic Kingdom, we decided that we would be a newlywed couple, so we walked around with “just married” pins on which was so darn cute seeing people’s reactions and how happy they were for “us” including the Fairy Godmother who gave us her very own blessing of shiny confetti, and a memory of that second that will live on forever. It took a magical day and made it even better, even if it was a little white lie, whatever I mean we are soulmates anyway so it wasn’t that big of a stretch, except for the whole preference issue but it was fun to pretend. But not only was the whole Disney World thing new to Chris, but I even had some exciting firsts: I saw block party bash (the parade at hollywood studios), AND caught one of the balls that they give away there, went on Ellen’s energy adventure (snoozefest), saw a real life space shuttle launch (from just over the top of Mission: Space, talk about memorable!), finally saw Illuminations (which occurred during the most beautifully insane electrical storm that I’ve ever seen), and went to CityWalk at Universal Studios just the two of us (which was the perfect night out that I had hoped for). I would’ve never asked for all the wonderful things that fell into place for us, but I sure am happy that they did.

Monday nights are family dinner nights with my disney family, and so far they’ve been… grilled cheeses and tomato soup courtesy of Mike; spaghetti and garlic bread courtesy of me and Matt; and most recently, tacos and nachos courtesy of Evan, Joey, and Catherine.

My car had to be fixed Monday evening thanks to my keys being stuck in the ignition, refusing to turn toward me to turn the car off, so I only just picked that up this morning.

Last night, we had a camp-in inside of the boys’ apartment in which we set up my tent in their living room and me, matt, lauren, evan, joey, and catherine all slept snug as bugs in a rug.

We went geocaching on the night of the 20th (where you find hidden canisters placed by other geocachers by searching on the internet, getting their latitude and longitude location, and using a GPS, find the container, sign the list saying that you found it, when, where you’re from, etc… it’s a really cool concept!) so we ended up down some hillbilly hell road and it was the most terrified i have ever felt in my life. In scary movies and at haunted houses, you know that they can’t do anything to hurt you, but this was real life freaky, we thought we saw a woman on the side of the road, but evan and joey didn’t hear us freaking out about her and proceeded to step out of the car before deciding that was a stupid idea. It was genuinely terrifying, and if i never have to experience that feeling again in my life, I’d be very thankful. Oh and about that woman, turns out it was a scarecrow.

Went up in the tethered hot air balloon above downtown disney with evan and joey on the night of the 14th and that was beautiful.

We’ve also been hitting up Jellyrolls once or twice a week to hangout and unwind. They have drink specials nightly that for 9 bucks you can get a 32 ounce cup of whatever the drink of the night is. So far I’ve had the Koolaid, Hurricane, and some other variety, but I’ve yet to be disappointed! It’s a really cool atmosphere overall. It’s basically just a dueling piano bar where they play really popular songs and requests so that the people can sing-along if they so desire (which isn’t uncommon when drinking the above mentioned 32 ouncers). But with the lack of a cover charge thanks to being a cast member, and the free popcorn and lively music, it’s all around a fun place to be.

Other than that, life has been great. I love my schedule lately, it’s usually Fairytale Garden on Sun, Mon; off Tues, Weds; Agrabah Thurs; Fairies Fri; and Pirates Saturday. The breakrooms are all hilarious thanks to my amazing coworkers, and they’re each so different but still a perfect balance of sleepy little groups, chatty big groups, and vulgar and hilarious big groups.

Thinking of going back to Columbus is super weird. I feel like my world’s been spinning so fast and that everyone at home’s has hardly been moving at all, they’re all still up to the same old same old, and just makes me even more thankful for all the growing i’ve been forced to do down here. I like myself more now than i ever have before and its a good feeling to have.
